Urgent Request: Temporary Placement for Two Students in Need

Dear Arbor Heights Families,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to you today with a request of utmost importance to the well-being of two special students in our community.  As you may know, circumstances sometimes arise that necessitate temporary placement for children facing challenges at home. Unfortunately, this is one of those times. We have two incredibly sweet students who need a temporary home environment where they can feel safe, loved, and supported.

We understand that this is a significant request and may not be feasible for everyone. However, we are reaching out to our Arbor Heights community in the hopes that there may be families willing and able to open their hearts and homes to these children during this difficult time. Your support, no matter how small, could potentially change the trajectory of these students’ lives, offering them a safe and nurturing environment when they need it the most.

Whether you can provide a short-term placement or are willing to consider a more extended arrangement, your support could make a world of difference in the lives of these students. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about this opportunity, please don’t hesitate to contact our social worker, Jenn Greenstein, or principal, Christy Collins. Mx. Greenstein and I will be able to connect you with the appropriate contacts. You can reach Jenn Greenstein via email at jgreenstein@seattleschools.org and Christy Collins via email at cacollins@seattleschools.org.

It’s important to note that any potential placement will involve specific requirements, including a background check, to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved. However, we are committed to facilitating this process and providing all necessary support.

On behalf of the entire Arbor Heights community, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all those who are willing to consider this request. Your kindness and compassion, your willingness to step up and help, are truly appreciated. Your support can make a lasting impact on the lives of these two wonderful students, and we are immensely grateful for that.

Thank you for your consideration and for being a part of our caring community.

Warm regards, Christy Collins

Change of Dismissal Procedure Reminder

As we approach the end of another school year, we want to remind you of our procedures regarding any requests for early release or changes to dismissal times for your child.

We’ve noticed a recent increase in phone calls requesting early dismissals. While we strive to accommodate every request, our limited office resources sometimes make it difficult to respond promptly.

To ensure that your child’s dismissal arrangements are effectively communicated to their teachers and our staff, we strongly urge you to use this link for the Change of Dismissal Form and available on the Arbor Heights website. This form is crucial for us to process your request efficiently and maintain your child’s safety and academic routine.

To guarantee that your request is received in time, please submit the Change of Dismissal form by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the requested change.

We deeply appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this procedure. Your support allows us to provide the best possible assistance to both you and your child. Thank you for your understanding and partnership in ensuring a smooth end to the school year.

Ridwell Success

Students from Mr. Van Straten’s 2nd grade class with the plastic film collection

Thank you to all the families who participated in our first plastic film collection with Ridwell! We collected an amazing 16 bags full of plastic film that will now be redirected from the landfill to being recycled into Trex decking material. We also placed top in the country for community sign-ups, surpassing our goal of 10, which means we get free plastic film pick up for the entire 2024-25 school year! Your family is welcome to collect and bring in plastic film through the end of this school year, and then we will pick right back up starting in the fall. If you’re still interested in signing up for Ridwell, it’s not too late, just click here!
