Community Update — Nov. 22, 2023

  1. Cell Phones and Smartwatches at School: Although we advise against cell phones and smart watches at school due to their value and possible instructional disruption, they are allowed but must be stored away. Students may not use cell phones or smart watches inside or outside during the school day which begins once the student arrives on the school grounds. Students must turn off and store their cell phones and smart watches in their backpack or ask the teacher to lock them up during the school day.  Loss or theft of cell phone/watch can occur; therefore, Arbor Heights cannot take responsibility for loss or theft. Students may use the school phones in the classroom or office with permission only.  Taking photos and/or filming other students is not allowed!  If a student uses a cell phone or smart watch during the day, he/she will be asked to put it away.  Further violation of the policy will result in confiscation until the end of the school day. A parent/guardian will need to come to school to pick up their child’s cell phone or smart watch.
  2. New Music Teacher! Please welcome Lane Juntunen to the Arbor Heights community! Mr. J. will teach music in the afternoon to all PreK-3rd graders on a weekly basis. He is here half-time and at Roxhill Elementary the other half-time. We feel fortunate to have added another capable, caring, arts educator to our staff roster!
  3. Volunteers Wanted: Do you want to help monitor students in our cafeteria and playground? We have volunteer shifts available between 11:20-12:45 each day (smaller shifts available within that time). If interested, email Alana Haider and Darren Frink (both in the same email): amhaider@seattleschools.org and ddfrink@seattleschools.org

You must also complete the volunteer forms.
  4. Lost & Found seems to always house stray jackets and lunchboxes! Please remember to label your child’s belongings. The next L&F donation day (cleanout!) will occur Friday, Dec. 15.
  5. Inclement weather is on the way! Please make sure your child wears a warm jacket to school along with hat, gloves, and sometimes boots. We expect all students to participate in outdoor recess for fresh air.
  6. After-School Enrichment Survey: Please complete a 2-minute survey and provide your input into what classes are offered for After-School Enrichment organized by the Arbor Heights PTSA! Registration for the winter session will be in December.
  7. Progress Reports will be available for parents to view in December (date TBA). How to check your child’s report card:
    • Go to ‘The Source.’
    • If you have previously set up your Source account, enter your username and password.
    • If you need to set up your account, visit the following page: Information on how to set up your Source account. Your username is the email address on the school record.
    • In the top right-hand corner, select which child’s progress reports you would like to access. Note: elementary student assignment grades are notdisplayed on The Source, and classes shown for students in grades K-5 are not necessarily displayed in period order.  They are a list of subjects the student will be studying throughout the day.
