Community Update • January 10, 2024

  1. Farewell, Mr. Frink! Please read this message from our amazing Assistant Principal: “Arbor Heights Families, It is with mixed emotions that I share that I’m taking a medical leave of absence from January 29th through June 30th. Although the leave is necessary, please know this decision hasn’t been made lightly or without regret. Alana Haider is thankfully available and willing to be the acting assistant principal to close the 23/24 school year. Additionally, it is extremely likely that I will not return to Arbor Heights (or PK-12 education) for the 24/25 school year. After 21 years of devoted service, it is clearly time for me to pause, to reflect, and to regroup. Although I’ve only been at AH for a short while, I’ve felt a deep connection and sense of community from the start. I will miss this dearly, especially your amazing kiddos! Please continue to take good care of yourselves, each other, and this community. With appreciation, Darren Frink
  2. Front Drop-off Loop Protocol: Parents, please practice safe driving and courtesy when using the front driveway to drop off your child. Lately we’ve noticed an uptick in unsafe behavior (e.g., allowing children to get out on the non-curb side of the drive) and have witnessed horn honking and speeding in this area. Safety is paramount. Please be considerate and patient when our precious children are getting in and out of cars at school.
  3. Pet Shelter Donations Going on Now! From our Change, Charity, Connection student group (the CCC Hawks, our student government): Our Animal Shelter Drive will run from January 8-31. We are collecting food and toys for cats and dogs at the Burien C.A.R.E.S. (Community Animal Resources and Education Society). Wish listincludes dog food (dry or cans), dog toys, cat food (dry or cans), cat toys, flea medication, Clorox bleach. A drop-off bin is located inside next to the office.
  4. K-3 Clothing Donations Needed! We keep a supply of spare sweatpants, sweatshirts, etc. for our little ones to use when they must change out of the clothing they wore to school (bathroom accident, skinned knee, fall in playground puddle, etc.). If you have spare clothing in good condition, we will gladly accept your donation to add to our supply. Just drop at front office. Thanks in advance!
  5. School Tours: We will offer a school tour for families planning to attend Arbor Heights (new to the area or incoming kindergarten Fall 2023) from 8:00-9:00 a.m. on two dates: Tuesday, Jan 23 and Tuesday, Feb 13. If you plan to attend, please call the office at 206-252-9250 to add your name to our tours list.
