Principal Porto

Returning from Spring Break always feels like the start of a sprint to the end of the school year. As the days get sunnier, it can start to feel like summer is right around the corner (I always get tricked)! The final weeks are full of exciting opportunities for students, including field trips, assemblies, and celebrations.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming volunteers for an afternoon tea to express our gratitude. If you were unable to attend, please know how much we appreciate all you do to support our students and help make Arbor Heights such a special place.

In the announcements section below, you’ll find information about many upcoming events. We look forward to a joyful and busy end to the school year together!

Safety Week at Arbor Heights – April 27

We will be celebrating Safety Week to help reinforce the importance of keeping everyone physically safe at school. Throughout the week, students will review safety expectations, practice an Earthquake Drill, celebrate our very own Safety Patrol, and learn from community partners who help keep us safe.

As part of this week, there will be a police cruiser (and K-9) on campus Monday morning and a fire truck on campus Friday. Families may see these on the playground or in the parking lot during those times. We look forward to a week of learning and practicing how to stay safe together!

Spring Book Fair

We will be partnering with local bookstore Paper Boat Booksellers for this year’s book fair. Proceeds will benefit our school library. The book fair will be closed during the school day and open for family shopping after school and during STEAM night. See below for shopping times, and hope to see you there!

This week, students in grades 3–5 began SBA testing and completed the ELA assessments on Tuesday and Thursday. Next week will be reserved for make-up testing. Math assessments will take place on May 12 and May 14.

Thank you for helping ensure students are well-rested and ready to do their best!

Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day – May 6

We’re excited to host Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day again on May 6. Just like last time, students and families are invited to meet Principal Porto at the corner of 41st Ave SW and SW 102nd Streetto walk, ride, or roll together to school. Students must be supervised by families until we reach the school gates.

We will also meet bus riders at school and invite all students to walk laps together until the first bell rings. We look forward to another fun and active morning together!

Explorations Day – June 5

Our second Explorations Day is coming up on June 5! Students have already begun choosing their classes with teachers, and we’re excited for another day full of creativity, learning, and joy.

We are currently looking for family volunteers to support classes. If you’re interested, please complete the interest form, and Principal Porto or Assistant Principal Haider will connect you with the teacher leading that class.

Explorations Day is always a student favorite—we’d love for you to be part of the experience! skills so they can have a future full of opportunities.
