Community Update — Jan. 17, 2024

Community Update • January 17, 2024

  1. Pet Shelter Donations Going on Now! From our Change, Charity, Connection student group (the CCC Hawks, our student government): Our Animal Shelter Drive will run from January 8-31. We are collecting food and toys for cats and dogs at the Burien C.A.R.E.S. (Community Animal Resources and Education Society). Wish list includes dog food (dry or cans), dog toys, cat food (dry or cans), cat toys, flea medication, Clorox bleach. A drop-off bin is located inside next to the office.
  2. Support our STEM Program: The engineers and scientists at Arbor Heights LOVE to create. With over 500 students in our building, STEM requires a lot of materials. If find yourself cleaning out any spaces of your home and come across items that could be repurposed into something new, please send it with your student or drop it off in the front office. Items that need constant replenishing are: pipe cleaners, straws, disposable utensils, paper tubes, beads, clean plastic bottles, yarn, and string. Thank you in advance from Ms. Ciocca!
  3. Front Drop-off Loop Protocol: Parents, please practice safe driving and courtesy when using the front driveway to drop off your child. Lately we’ve noticed an uptick in unsafe behavior (e.g., allowing children to get out on the non-curb side of the drive) and have witnessed horn honking and speeding in this area. Safety is paramount. Please be considerate and patient when our precious children are getting in and out of cars at school.
  4. K-3 Clothing Donations Needed! We keep a supply of spare sweatpants, sweatshirts, etc. for our little ones to use when they must change out of the clothing they wore to school (bathroom accident, skinned knee, fall in playground puddle, etc.). If you have spare clothing in good condition, we will gladly accept your donation to add to our supply. Just drop at front office. Thanks in advance!
  5. School Tours: We will offer a school tour for families planning to attend Arbor Heights (new to the area or incoming kindergarten Fall 2023) from 8:00-9:00 a.m. on two dates: Tuesday, Jan 23 and Tuesday, Feb 13. If you plan to attend, please call the office at 206-252-9250 to add your name to our tours list.

From the PTSA

  1. Popcorn Friday: We are looking for a few volunteers to help with popping, bagging, and distributing popcorn.  If you can spare a couple hours this Friday, this is a great opportunity to be at the school during school hours to experience the kids’ excitement and see firsthand the positive impact we can have at our school.  To view the available time slots and sign up to volunteer for Popcorn Friday.
  2. Arbor Heights Auction: Our 15th annual Arbor Heights Auction is happening on April 20, 2024, at Tim’s Tavern.  This event is the PTSA’s largest fundraising event of the year, and we are seeking live and silent auction items for our event.  Items include but are not limited to:
