The Arbor Heights Student Government Association (SGA) is a group consisting of student representatives who have organized to form a standing committee with the support of teacher sponsors and parent volunteers.

The purpose of the Arbor Heights Student Government Association (SGA) includes:

Charitable Fundraising and Community Service: Students fundraise and contribute to the betterment of our community and those in need.

Education: Students engage in opportunities to learn leadership skills as well as learn about civics, financial responsibility, and entrepreneurial undertakings. Students account for all funds received and expensed, learning basics of running an organization.

Social: Students organize and operate school events to support a positive school climate.

Student Life: Students work to positively influence decisions and processes that affect student life at Arbor Heights. They help share students? ideas, concerns and questions with the principal and staff in an effort to be active participants in their educational experience.

Qualified candidates to run for SGA membership must meet the following criteria:

• Be a 3rd , 4th or 5th-grade student
• Maintain good standing in core academic subjects
• Follow school rules

Demonstrate cooperative and friendly behavior with students and adults

SGA representatives members are:

• Appointed or elected by their class and/or teacher(s)
• Responsible for representing the Arbor Heights student body
• Empowered to work for the improvement of student life at Arbor Heights
• Expected to be fair and respectful

Duties essential to a successful and strong Student Government Association:

• Taking minutes at meetings and providing them to committee
• Bookkeeping
• Operation management
• Project management
• Social event coordination
• Communication with staff and students (specifically addressing concerns with staff and acting as liaisons for the primary grades)
• Historian

Characteristics and habits essential to being a dynamic SGA representative:

• Attend meetings regularly
• Serve as role models to their peers
• Volunteer for fundraisers and events
• Receive feedback from peers and present it to the Student Government and school staff
• Problem-solving
• Thinking critically

The SGA meets once monthly (third Wednesday of each month) with teacher sponsors. Representatives will decide how duties will be assigned and/or shared efforts and projects are approved by majority committee vote 3rd , 4th, and 5th-grade committee representatives report SGA news to and obtain feedback from K, 1st, and 2nd-grade classes.
