Volunteer working with a group of kindergarten studentsA dedicated and active parent community is one of the reasons Arbor Heights is such a special place. There are numerous ways to volunteer both directly with the school or through the PTA. Volunteers can lend their skills, talents, and time in both big and small ways - during the school day and after-school hours.

We would like to extend an enormous thank you to all our volunteers. Whether you work in the classroom, tutor, chaperone a field trip, serve on the PTA Board, volunteer on a committee, or work an event—you name it—we can’t do it without you. For this, we thank you!

    Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to do to become an Approved Volunteer?
The Seattle School District requires EVERY volunteer working in our schools to complete a volunteer application at the beginning of EACH school year. This is a requirement even if you were an Approved Volunteer in previous years. We're made it SUPER easy for you to complete an application. Just go to and complete it online.  If you wish to volunteer at any time during the 2017-2018 school year, please submit your application by Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at 5 p.m.

What happens after I’ve completed all of my volunteer requirements?
Our office staff will review your application and conduct a WATCH check. Please expect up to 3 weeks to process your application. Once your application is approved, you will be provided with a key card and code to access the main entrance to the school. This eliminates the need for you to be buzzed in to the building each time you come to school and complete the visitor sign-in process on each visit.

If I’m just planning on chaperoning a field trip this year, do I still have to complete a Volunteer Application?
Yes, you do! All field trip chaperones MUST be approved volunteers. Even if you don’t plan on chaperoning a field trip until later in the year, please return you application at the beginning of the school year (late applications will be considered, yet will take longer to process). We will not be able to process last-minute requests e.g. day before field trip.

I missed the deadline at the beginning of the school year to submit my volunteer application. Can I submit a late application?
While the last day to apply has passed, it is still possible to submit a late application. Please allow up to 3 weeks for the office to process your application (we are not able to process last- minute requests). If you have questions, please contact Tracy Hughes at 206-252-9250.

I have children attending different schools and already filled out a Seattle Schools volunteer application. Do I have to have to fill out another for Arbor Heights?
No, you don't. If you've already completed a volunteer application for the 2017-2018 school year and returned it to a different school, just let us know. We'll contact the other school and verify your information and get you set-up as an Approved Volunteer here too!

Who should I contact if I have any questions about my application?
Tracy Hughes, our friendly office assistant, is your point person. She can be reached at
